The Basics of Buying a Diamond

 

The old saying Diamonds are a girls best friend prompt millions of men to seek out the perfect diamond for their girl. Diamonds are great fro almost any occasion, not to mention how beautiful they are. Before you buy a diamond you must learn something about them. They are a huge investment and you need to know how to get the most for your money.

Learning the basic about diamonds is as easy as learning about, what is called, the 4Cs. The 4Cs are clarity, cut, color, and carat. Clarity is the clearness of the diamond and is determined by any blemishes, as well as the number and size or diamonds. Cut is the proportions, symmetry and finish of the diamond and determines how shiny it is. Color can range from white to yellow to brown. Some colors are extremely rare and go for high selling prices. Carat is the weight. The price increases with the weight. The 4Cs should be your starting point \when choosing a diamonds.

Once you have done your homework on what a makes a good diamond you are ready to buy. Start by looking around and comparing prices with different dealers. Look at old and new designs. Make sure whoever you deal with has a good reputation. Find out about their return policy before anything else. When choosing the actual diamond look to the 4Cs. Figure out how they rank in importance to the person you are buying for. Base your decision on this.

Diamonds are an investment of time and money. Once you learn about the 4Cs you are on your way to knowing a good diamond from a bad diamond. You should be prepared before even looking and have some idea of what you are looking for. Diamonds come in many variations and there is something for everyone.
